Former Melville Millionaires baseball pitcher Jeremy Berg helped the Orem Owlz to the 2009 Pioneer League Championship with a 13-10 win over the Missoula Osprey Sept. 19 at Ogren Park-Allegiant Field in Montana. Berg recorded the win in relief tossing four innings and striking out eight batters.

“I got in and pitched the four innings, coach had told me I would,” Berg said. “I just got in there and threw strikes. I wanted to keep my calm and not get too anxious about it being a championship game.”

Jeremy played two seasons with the Millionaires .He approached Coach Keller prior to season two and wanted to change his delivery to a submarine style. Coach Keller’s patience got him through a few rough outings and Jeremy finished the season with a 1.43 ERA in 50.2 innings. The Millionaires helped to arrange a school transfer to High Point University in North Carolina. Berg had a 2.70 ERA in 43 innings in 2008 and a 1.88 ERA in 2009.

Berg is working out and prepare for spring training,” he said. “I will have to work hard before and at spring training and see where I end up next season. I hope to be in Cedar Rapids, Iowa next year with the Angel’s single-A team.”

Berg signed with the Owlz, the rookie league affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, on July 24 2009 and posted a 5-0 record with a 1.35 ERA for Orem. He made 15 appearances out of the bullpen, logging 24 2/3 innings in which he recorded 24 strikeouts and walked just two batters. Melville wishes Jeremy the best of luck in his pursuit to Major League Baseball.
