THE MELVILLE ADVANCE WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27, 2011

The Western Major Baseball League’s Melville Millionaires are right on schedule

Four more players have signed on for the season and team governor Jeff Bouvier says the next item the team needs to concentrate on is finding summer homes for the players.

“I guess the push is on now as we’re getting closer,” says Bouvier. “We really need to find some homes for these players. It’s not like they’re treading underfoot...these guys are very busy and not home much. They just need a place to hang their hat.”

People who billet players will receive $400 a month and Bouvier says more information on billeting is available on the team website at www.millionairesbaseball.com.

“There are also still some tickets available for the Farm and Leisure Lotto,” says Bouvier. “I can’t stress enough how important it is to us that we sell it out.” The latest players joining the ranks of the Millionaires include a few pitchers and a pair of position players.

Tucker Hicks, a redshirt freshman at University of Arkansas-Monticello, is a lefthanded hurler hailing from Krum, Texas. In highschool Tucker was an all-state honourable mention and finished with a 2.85 era and 64 strikeouts in 41 innings pitched.

Brendan Alvey, is a lefthanded hurler at Northwood University hailing from Fort Worth, Texas. Alvey has also played some outfield something which gives him more value to the Mils admits Bouvier. “It’s great when a guy brings another dimension to the game in case we need him to fill in at some point,” Bouvier says. “It’s a short season with a lot of games and if you get into injury trouble you might have to ask a guy to play a different position so it’s good when they have some experience.”

The other thrower joining the fold is Mason Reynolds from Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The six-feet, one-inch Reynolds joins the Mils from Arkansas Tech.University and currently sports a 2-1 record in eight starts with 38 and 2/3 innings pitched, 21 strikeouts and an earned run average (ERA) of 6.75.

Vancouver’s Ian Horne joins the club from West Hills Community College in California. The versatile first-sacker and outfielder leads his team in hitting, batting at a .306 clip with 15 RBI over 31 games. Another redshirt, six-feet, three-inch catcher CJ Engel comes to the Millionaires from Arkansas Tech. Not too much information was available on the 190-pounder but as a senior in high school he hit .350 with 10 homeruns and 40 RBI.
